Dentures
in Pembroke Pines, FL

Dentures are a removable appliance that replaces one or more of your missing teeth. They are made to resemble natural teeth, improve mouth function, and enhance your smile and facial appearance.

There are two types of dentures: a full (or complete) denture and a partial denture. A complete denture is used when all your teeth are missing. When you have some of your natural teeth, you will only need a partial denture. A partial denture replaces the missing teeth and prevents the remaining teeth from shifting.

What is the process when you need dentures?

We can place a denture in immediately after extractions, so you don’t have to go without teeth. Impressions are made before the teeth are extracted, and molds are created to fabricate a denture. Once tissues heal and shrink, the dentures may need adjustments. Conventional dentures are made several weeks later to allow time for the tissue to heal. These delayed dentures are more accurate than the immediate ones since they are made from impressions of the healed tissue.

The entire process requires several appointments to take accurate impressions and have several try-in appointments. These try-in appointments are needed to get the proper shape, color, function, and fit correct. It is normal to have an adjustment period with speech, chewing, soreness, etc. Over time this will subside, and you will get used to your new dentures.

Dentures are durable appliances and can last for many years, but they may have to be remade, relined, repaired, or adjusted due to normal wear. Proper cleaning and care, good oral hygiene, and routine dental visits will help maintain the life of your denture.

If you are missing teeth and want to fill in that gap or have recently had teeth extracted, give us a call so we can schedule an appointment to review your options. Dentures can be traditional or implant-based dentures. They can be removable or permanent. What you need depends on your circumstances and your comfort level. We will work through all the options with you to arrive at the best solution for you.
